Posted January 19, 2025 A Total Fire Ban has been Declared from 12am, Monday 20 January to 12am, Tuesday 21 January 2025

Total Fire Bans are declared by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA (DFES) under the following circumstances: • Severe weather conditions are forecast, or when widespread fires mean they don’t have the resources to fight more. • The lighting of open-air fires or any other activity in the open air that is likely to cause a fire. • When fire weather conditions are most likely to threaten lives and property or when a fire is already underway and firefighting resources are committed.

Coral bay Road Closure

The Shire of Carnarvon wishes to advise the community and visitors that a section of Robinson Street in Coral Bay will be temporarily closed to all traffic from 13 January 2025 to 5 April 2025 to facilitate reconstruction works associated as part of the RAC Ningaloo Reef Resort redevelopment. This exciting redevelopment, led by RAC, includes enhancements to the public road and adjacent facilities, ensuring long-term benefits for both pedestrians and vehicles in Coral Bay.

The Shire of Carnarvon has extended vehicle access restrictions at Pelican Point Beach to support ongoing dune stabilisation and vegetation recovery efforts.

Pontoon Jetties
Posted December 9, 2024 Temporary removal of fascine floating pontoon jetties

The Shire of Carnarvon advises that, as resolved at the November Ordinary Council Meeting, the three floating pontoon jetties and walkways located adjacent to the Fascine foreshore will be temporarily removed for the cyclone season. This precautionary measure will protect the pontoons from potential storm damage and facilitate maintenance and upgrades. The Council has also approved an investment of $150,000 for the installation of a new pile system, replacing the previously used strut system to secure the pontoons.

The Shire wishes to advise that from 1 January 2025, the fee to dispose of concrete containing metal reinforcing will change for commercial operators and businesses. This change supports the Shire’s recycling practices by encouraging separation of concrete free from metal reinforcing. The Shire’s waste facility is equipped with a crusher bucket attachment for its excavator, enabling the efficient processing of non-reinforced concrete into reusable material. This crushed concrete is utilised on-site to maintain internal roads and tracks, demonstrating a practical and sustainable recycling method.

At the 22 October 2024 Ordinary Meeting of Council, the Council made the difficult decision to divest itself of the management orders over the Blowholes Reserve. This is due to the complex challenges and intractability of issues and the inability to implement the Blowholes Reserve Management Plan.
