Litter Legends: Keeping Carnarvon Beautiful  

The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to continue the Litter Legends program, an initiative that rewards community members for helping to keep our town clean. Originally launched as Clean Community Coffees with funding from the Keep Australia Beautiful Council, the program's success has led the Shire to fund and support it independently.

 

Get involved

For all community members and visitors who love seeing our town clean and beautiful we invite you to join the Litter Legends weekly clean-up on Friday mornings from 9-9:30am at different locations around town. Or you can do your own clean-up at a time that suits you. All equipment is provided; just wear enclosed shoes. Stay for a social coffee or grab your coffee voucher to use at a later time.

 

Community members and visitors can participate in two ways:

  1. Independent clean-up: Collect a rubbish bag, fill it with litter, and drop it off at the Shire of Carnarvon administration building during opening hours.
  2. Friday morning clean-up: Join the Litter Legends group as they clean different locations around town.

 

In both cases, the Shire of Carnarvon provides a coffee voucher to be used at participating cafes:

  • 6701 Waterfront Cafe
  • A Taste Of Italy By Valeria
  • Kestrel Cafe

Community leaders

The weekly Litter Legends clean-ups are led by Wayne and Jeanette Taylor, dedicated community members who are the true Litter Legends. They provide support and encouragement to all participants, bringing the necessary equipment, dissmenating the coffee vouchers, making each session are safe, productive and enjoyable.

 

How to claim your coffee voucher

To claim a coffee voucher, follow these simple steps:

  • Pick up litter in and around Carnarvon.
  • Dispose of the collected litter in the designated Keep Australia Beautiful litter bags.
  • Bring the filled litter bag to the Shire of Carnarvon (additional redemption locations coming soon).
  • Exchange the filled litter bag for a coffee voucher, redeemable at participating cafes.

 

Program highlights

  • More than 700 vouchers have been distributed over the past six months
  • Community members have completed 32 clean-ups in just six months.
  • The initiative reduces litter, supports local businesses, and builds community connections.

 

Sustainability commitment

Can I use my own reusable cup for the free coffee? Yes! To reduce waste, we encourage participants to bring their own reusable cups when redeeming their coffee vouchers.
