GROWERS OF LEAFY GREENS, MELONS AND BERRIES
The Shire of Carnarvon announces that as of 12 February 2025:
Growers of leafy greens, melons and berries are required to comply with stricter requirements that include notification or registration with the local government and a higher standard of premises.
-
- Leafy greens include lettuce and other leafy vegetables that are generally consumed raw.
- Melons include watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew melon and piel de sapo
- Berries include strawberries, blueberries and berries of the genus Rubus.
Growers of leafy greens and melons are required to have their business registered under the Food Act 2008 and inspected by local government officers and have a comprehensive food safety management system, which can be either an existing Freshcare or other Scheme certification. If they don’t have an existing Scheme certification a comprehensive Food Safety Management Statement must be provided.
