The Shire of Carnarvon is thrilled to announce that its treasured Art Collection is now accessible online, allowing art enthusiasts near and far to explore the region’s creative legacy.

This milestone was celebrated with a special morning tea at the Reminiscence III exhibition on Wednesday 29 January, which showcases highlights from the collection. The event brought together community members for a reflection on the stories and artists behind these remarkable works.

Adding to the occasion, artists Adam (and Jenny) Jauczius and Julie Silvester joined virtually from Norfolk Island and Perth, respectively, to share insights into their creative journeys and deep connections to Carnarvon. Julie, a professional artist who regularly retreats in the region, spoke fondly of the inspiration she draws from Coral Bay, New Beach, and Bush Bay. Meanwhile, Adam and Jenny reminisced about their time living in Carnarvon during the 1990s, recalling the people and places that shaped their experience - perhaps hinting at a long-overdue visit!

A Collection with History

Did you know? The Shire Art Collection began in 1984 as part of the biennial Gascoyne Art Awards and has since grown to 42 stunning artworks housed at the Shire of Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery. The collection is showcased through exhibitions and displays throughout the year, ensuring the community has ongoing access to these exceptional pieces.

A New Era: The Collection Goes Digital

As part of Reminiscence III, the entire collection has been photographed and curated into an online catalogue, making it accessible to audiences from anywhere, at any time. This exciting development ensures that the region’s artistic heritage can be celebrated beyond gallery walls.
