MEDIA RELEASE

The Shire of Carnarvon's Litter Legends program is celebrating its fourth round after evolving from the Clean Community Coffees initiative. Initially launched with Community Litter Grants funding, the program's success has prompted the Shire to continue supporting it independently. Participants receive a coffee voucher from local cafes in exchange for collecting rubbish.

Over the past two years, more than 700 vouchers have been distributed to participants who collect rubbish in exchange for a coffee voucher from local cafes, the program has significantly improved Carnarvon's cleanliness while supporting local businesses. Long-time participants Jeannette and Wayne Taylor now lead the initiative, bringing fresh energy and direction.

"Litter Legends is something we're really proud to be part of," said Jeannette and Wayne Taylor. "What started as a simple way to tidy up Carnarvon has grown into a community movement. It's about more than just picking up rubbish - it's about bringing people together, looking after our town, and supporting our local businesses."

The dedicated duo also extends an invitation: "Carnarvon is our beautiful town and the best place to live. Help us make it better than what it already is, by joining us on Friday mornings for our group clean ups."

Visitors have embraced the program too. Jed and Jessamy from Albany joined after spotting the Litter Legends noticeboard. "We saw the noticeboard and thought it was such a fantastic idea," said Jessamy. "It's a simple way to give back while enjoying everything Carnarvon has to offer. It's been wonderful to meet locals and feel part of the community during our stay."

Shire President Eddie Smith praised the program: "The Litter Legends program has shown how a simple initiative can create a positive cycle for our community. By rewarding community members with vouchers to local businesses, we're not only keeping Carnarvon clean but also keeping money circulating locally. It's a win-win that benefits our environment, our economy, and our community spirit."

This Friday marks the beginning of the fourth round, celebrating 32 community clean-ups over six months. The program continues to foster community pride and environmental stewardship among both locals and visitors.
