On Tuesday last week, 14th February, Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery joined with libraries all over Australia to celebrate Library Lovers Day 2023. This year’s theme of “Only You” was an acknowledgement of the key role community members play in making public libraries amazing places for everyone to enjoy.
With a full day of light refreshments, live music, craft for the kids, photo booth, and the ever-popular blind date with a book, new and returning patrons enjoyed a relaxed and cheerful day learning about library services, browsing The Recipe Of Life exhibition in our Gallery Nook, and catching up with friends. While lunch was the main drawcard for the day, it was the musical accompaniment by Carnarvon local Adam Harris on the piano and harp that added a touch of class to the festivities.
The day was also the launch of our Library Film Competition for ages 12-25, the results of which will form part of our “50 years of public libraries in Carnarvon” commemorations this year. This is an opportunity for young people to create a short film with a theme of the role Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery has played in their lives, or what aspirations they have for the library in the future. Details are up on our library website, or you can ask library staff for more information.
Photos from our Library Lovers Day 2023 celebrations will feature in the upcoming March edition of the Shire of Carnarvon monthly newsletter, so pick up a copy at the library or subscribe online to receive a digital copy.
