Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery celebrates CBCA Book Week 2024!

Between 22 and 24 August 2024, our special guest at Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery, Glenn B. Swift, entertained around Carnarvon at local schools, the library, and to remote students of Carnarvon School of the Air for our CBCA Book Week 2024 celebrations! Glenn brought the joy of storytelling to hundreds of children and adults during his time in Carnarvon; as well as some magic tricks that proved that while it’s true that Reading is Magic, magic is also magic!

Magic Markets Storytime during the Saturday Markets at The Woolshed was extremely well attended by locals and tourists alike! A big thank you to all the children who bravely performed on stage, and to the parents, grandparents, and adult-people who helped make the event special.

Glenn has been performing professionally in schools, libraries, festivals, theatres and other public events around WA since 1988. He tells many stories of his own creation, loves to get large groups of children screaming on cue, and introduces teenagers to the joy of reading through the experience of a gripping narrative. His book The Ghost in the Bell Tower can be found on the shelves at Carnarvon Library, and several of his short stories can be read for free at gbs-storyteller.com.au.

A big thank you to everyone who entered our Costume Competition and Colouring-In Competition - check out some of the entries on the library website. We hope that you experienced some magic and the joy of reading during Book Week - make sure you keep an eye on our website for our exciting program for 2025!

Our CBCA Book Week 2024 celebrations would not have been possible without the generous support of The State Government of Western Australia through The Department of Local Government, Sports & Cultural Industries, The Children's Book Council of Australia WA Branch, and the Shire of Carnarvon, and we gratefully acknowledge their ongoing support of our CBCA Book Week 2024 program.
