We are proud to announce that the contract for the technical design, specifications, and construction documentation for the first phase of the Carnarvon Activation Plan has been awarded to Howard & Heaver Pty Ltd, trading as H & H Architects. The implementation of this phase is made possible through generous funding received from Lotterywest.

The primary goal of the Carnarvon Activation Plan is to enhance the amenity and connectivity of public spaces in Carnarvon, improving and activating existing assets to benefit the local community and tourists alike. The first phase of the Carnarvon Activation Plan includes a series of four key projects.

The Tramway Walk Trail project will see the installation of interpretive signage, furniture and fixtures, and interpretive signage for the healing shelter and Whitlock Island shelter. This project aims to enhance the historical and cultural significance of the Tramway Walk Trail, providing visitors with informative and engaging experiences.

At Town Oval, the project will involve the construction of a community stage, the installation of new furniture, and the addition of public art. These enhancements are designed to create a vibrant community hub where residents and visitors can gather for events, performances, and leisure activities.

Van Dongen Park will undergo significant development with the addition of a new playground and day-use amenities. These improvements are intended to make the park a more attractive and functional space for families and individuals to enjoy outdoor recreation and relaxation.

The Connect and Create project will bring public art installations to Robinson Street and the installation of a self-standing urban screen. These artistic enhancements aim to beautify the area and provide engaging visual experiences for both locals and tourists, contributing to the cultural vibrancy of Carnarvon.

In collaboration with landscape architectural consultant UDLA, a comprehensive CBD revitalisation plan has been developed, which includes a conceptual design for the delivery of the Carnarvon Activation Plan Phase One projects. This conceptual plan will guide the creation of technical designs and construction documentation, which will be integral to the construction tender process.

The total project budget for the implementation of the Carnarvon Activation Plan Phase One stands at $4,961,253. A substantial portion of this budget, $4,198,603, is externally funded by Lotterywest and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. An additional $205,000 is contributed by several other funding partners, while the remaining $557,650 will be covered by a cash contribution from the Shire over two years.
