The Shire of Carnarvon is excited to announce the release of its proposed Schedule of Fees and Charges for the upcoming 2023/2024 financial year. The comprehensive schedule reflects the Shire's commitment to providing quality services while maintaining a balanced approach to economic conditions and community impact.

As part of this year's review, the Shire's officers have diligently assessed the impact of proposed increases, considering prevailing economic conditions, historical trends, and regulated fees. The adoption of the Schedule of Fees and Charges for 2023/2024 is an integral part of the upcoming budget process, with a projected effective date 60 days after approval by the Council.
A notable aspect of the proposed schedule is the application of a Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase of 5.8% across most fees and charges, underscoring the Shire's commitment to balancing fiscal responsibility with community needs. However, exceptions have been made for waste fees and statutory charges.
This year's schedule also introduces several new fees to accommodate evolving community needs, including:
- Hiring of the Woolshed's Kitchen
- Cinema advertising opportunities for businesses and government agencies
- Rental of the new Gallery Nook space at the library
- Aquatic Centre entrance fee for spectators
- Consistency of printing/photocopying services across all Shire facilities
Of particular significance are the proposed changes to waste disposal fees, aimed at enhancing waste sorting and separation behaviors while ensuring operational funding for the Brown Range Waste Facility. The 2023/2024 schedule eliminates the existing $40 commercial service fee, aiming to encourage proper waste disposal and discourage unlawful dumping.
In response to these modifications, the Shire is committed to conducting a thorough six-month trial period, during which stakeholders and the community will have the opportunity to provide valuable feedback.
