The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce that a local building company has been awarded the tender to construct worker’s accommodation on Parnaa View, Brockman. This project, funded through the Regional Economic Development program by the
Gascoyne Development Commission, aims to address the pressing shortage of
appropriate housing for workers relocating to Carnarvon.
The tender, RFT 01/2024, was advertised by Shire Officers and closed on March 20, 2024. This initiative will see the development of two new residences, which is expected to increase further development of the remaining available lots on Parnaa View, as part of the broader Northwater Development.
A thorough cashflow analysis conducted by Shire Officers has projected a positive Return on Investment for the Shire. This project provides a much-needed solution to the housing shortage and offers an opportunity for the Council to consider replacing its aging residential assets. Additionally, there is potential for future financial recovery through the sale of these existing assets.
To support this significant housing project, the Council has resolved to apply to the Western Australian Treasury Corporation for a loan of $500,000. This loan will be combined with the RED Grant of $182,855, with the remaining required funds to be allocated from the Council’s own source funds in the 2024/25 Budget.
This development marks a significant step towards improving living conditions for workers in Carnarvon and fostering economic growth in the region. The Shire of Carnarvon remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and looks forward to the successful completion of this project.
