Fencing for Pioneer Cemetery to be Considered in the 2024/2025 Budget

Our community has voiced concerns about the condition of the Pioneer Cemetery due to vandalism. We are listening. The Carnarvon Pioneer Cemetery, a significant part of our heritage, has seen increased vandalism recently. In 2021, with funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program, we had to remove the badly deteriorated fencing.
New Security Measures
To protect and preserve this important site, we've prioritised the installation of new garrison fencing. This will help maintain security and significantly reduce vandalism.
Budget Consideration
We've sought quotes and determined that approximately $162,500 is needed for the supply and installation of perimeter fencing and an entry/exit gate. Currently, there’s no allocated budget for this in our present finances. Therefore, this spending will be considered in the 2024/2025 budget deliberations.
Why Garrison Fencing?
After thorough consideration, our Shire officers believe garrison fencing offers the best protection. It balances initial capital cost, ongoing maintenance, aesthetic value, and infrastructure longevity.
We appreciate your ongoing support and feedback as we work to protect our community's heritage.
