We are thrilled to announce that the Shire of Carnarvon will be part of the innovative Circular Economies partnership launched by SPACED and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA)!
This incredible initiative will bring five international, national, and local artists to regional WA communities over 2024–25, culminating in a fantastic exhibition at PICA in 2026. One of these talented artists, Mary Mattingly from the USA, will be spending time right here in Carnarvon!
Mary and the other artists will engage deeply with our local community, exploring the concept of Circular Economies through socially engaged arts practice. This project addresses our relationship with resources, the impact of the export industry, and the innovative, community-led solutions emerging in our region. 🌱💡
PICA’s Director/CEO Hannah Mathews highlighted the significance of SPACED in connecting artists with communities, and we are proud to be part of this meaningful collaboration. As SPACED Curator Miranda Johnson stated, "Circular Economies will see SPACED continue its nearly 30-year history of meaningful collaborations with regional communities."
Stay tuned for more updates as we welcome Mary Mattingly and embark on this exciting journey of creativity and community engagement! The Shire of Carnarvon would like to thank the Gascoyne Development Commission for the connection which made this collaboration possible.
