Shire Management - Infrastructure
In a Shire of 53,000km2 with over 1500km of roads (only 180km of which are sealed), and 7000 residents, the diversity of works and services to be provided can be imagined. Council has adopted an approach of maintaining existing assets in this area such as buildings, parks and gardens, roads and plant and equipment. This will mean that Council will place an emphasis in the maintenance area and only accept new projects after careful examination of needs and priorities.
Request for Works
When Council adopts the budget each year, it has determined in considerable detail, what works are to be undertaken for the ensuing year and the amount of revenue that is needed to be raised in rates to meet that commitment. Having established the works schedule, Council is unable to approve additional works during the year unless it deletes works of corresponding value that had been approved in the budget.
Ratepayers who feel that their request should be undertaken urgently, must advise the Co-ordinator Infrastructure Services before the end of March each year so that Council may consider the request in their budget deliberations.
Crossovers
Please enquire with the Engineering Department (08) 9941 0024 as to Council's requirements for vehicle crossovers.
Plant Hire
Council's plant is normally engaged on Council work. Council may hire plant with an operator but Council work will always have priority over any private commitment.
Contact the Works Supervisor Mr Will Taylor on (08) 99411496 for further information.
Footpaths
Please contact the Engineering Department (08) 9941 0024) to report any damage or dangerous situations existing on footpaths to enable prompt repairs. Footpaths should be kept free of obstructions, including over hanging trees and shrubs and parked vehicles.
Road Closures
Prior to travelling on any of the Shire's unsealed roads after heavy rain, it is recommended that you contact the Shire's Engineering Department to obtain a current road condition report. Please note that travelling on roads that have been closed can incur a heavy penalty.
Road condition reports can also be obtained from the Main Roads Department on (08) 9941 0711 and the Shire of Upper Gascoyne on (08) 9943 0509.
